Orchestra Course Descriptions

Seventh Grade Beginning Orchestra 11706

This class is open to all seventh grade students who have never played a stringed instrument before or have taken at least one year off from their instrument. Instrument choices for this class are violin, viola, cello and double bass. During the first two weeks of school, students will be fitted for instruments by the orchestra director. The purpose of this class is to allow students the opportunity to catch up to their peers and join the eighth grade concert orchestra the following year. The focus of this class will include learning the fundamentals of string instruments, basic music theory, ear training, basic rhythms, and bowing techniques, etc.

Seventh Grade Varsity Orchestra 11707

This intermediate level orchestra is suggested for students with one or two years of experience playing a stringed instrument. Students will work on developing good tone quality, bowing techniques, recognizing and performing different styles of music, increasing technical and rhythmic skills and developing as individual and ensemble musicians. Numerous opportunities to perform in concerts, solo and ensemble festivals, assemblies and community events will be provided. Students may also elect to switch instruments based on orchestral needs (violin, viola, cello, double bass).
