Band Course Descriptions
Seventh Grade BEGINNING BAND 11003 This class is open to all seventh grade students who have never played a band instrument or have taken at least one year off from their instrument. During the first two weeks of school, students will be fitted for instruments by the band director. The purpose of this class is to allow students the opportunity to catch up to their peers and join the eighth grade concert band the following year. Therefore, the instrument choices are limited. Some sections of the band are typically filled up. Instruments available to beginning band students are as follows: oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, French horn, trombone, baritone, and tuba. Other instruments will need to be discussed with the band director.
Seventh Grade VARSITY BAND 11702 This intermediate level band is suggested for students with a year or two of experience playing a band instrument. Students will work on developing good tone quality, recognizing and performing different styles of music, increasing technical and rhythmic skills and developing as individual and ensemble musicians. Numerous opportunities to perform in concerts, solo and ensemble festivals, parades and assemblies will be provided. Students may also elect to switch to an instrument that is needed in our band (bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, French horn, trombone, baritone and tuba).
Eighth Grade CONCERT BAND 118002 The Concert Band will perform music of a complex and difficult level. Students will continue to work on development of good tone quality, recognizing and performing different styles of music, increasing technical and rhythmic skills and developing as individual and ensemble musicians. There will be numerous opportunities to perform in concerts, solo and ensemble festivals, parades and assemblies. The Concert Band allows the student to perform with the High School band on many occasions, giving the student a look ahead to high school. |
