Attention Band and Orchestra Families: 3/1/09
· MSBOA Band and Orchestra Festival Performance Information:
Orchestra will perform at Novi High School on Saturday, March 21st, at 9:00am
7th Grade Band will perform at Novi High School on Saturday, March 21st, at 10:20 am
8th Grade Band will perform at Novi High School on Saturday, March 21st, at 2:05 pm
**Please notify Mrs. Rais ASAP of any conflicts or concerns with the above performances. **Stay tuned for more information as to when and where we will meet. We will meet approximately 1 1/2 hours before our performance (this is not definite). ** Parent help is essential to the success of our festival performance. We can not perform at festival without parent help from all ensembles. Please notify Mrs. Rais if you are able to help out. Thanks!
· Band and Orchestra Clinics 7th and 8th grade band clinics will take place during school on Tuesday March 3rd. 8th grade will be during 2nd and 3rd hour (students will miss 1 class to participate in the full duration) and 7th grade band will be during 4th and 5th hours. We are pleased to invite Dr. Max Plank from EMU as our band clinician
Orchestra clinic is on Wednesday, March 4th from 6:30-8:00 pm. This is also a required part of students grade in orchestra. We are please to have Mr. Tony Krempa from Birmingham Schools as our orchestra clinician.
**All clinics are at NMS in the Auditorium. Students do not have to wear concert dress for the clinic. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Congradulations to Jiwoon Choi, Harrison Halley, Lauren Carroll, Shannon Rouston and Lisa Jin for making it into the District 4 Middle School Honors Band!! · 8th Grade Parent Meeting :March 12th, 7:00pm at NHS. Come learn about the high school band program and how to best schedule music.
1/22/09 · Congratulations to Rebecca Chen who is performing this weekend with the MSBOA All State Middle School Band!! · Congratulations to the NHS Wind Ensemble, who is also performing this weekend at the Michigan Music Conference!! · 8th Grade Parent Meeting :March 12th, 7:00pm at NHS. Come learn about the high school band program and how to best schedule music. · Year Book Pictures: If you have music pictures that you would like to submit for the yearbook please email them to Mrs. Henderson at mhenderson@novi.k12.mi.us or to Mrs. Rais at mrais@novi.k12.mi.us · Blue Lake Scholarship Auditions during school on Friday, January 30th. Please see Mrs. Rais to sign up for a time. You need to prepare 2 scales and an excerpt of music. · 6th and 7th grade Band Activity Night is on Wednesday January 28th from 6-7:30. Please turn in form and $3.00 for pizza to Mrs. Rais or Mr. Cooper. · 6th and 7th grade Orchestra Activity Night is on Thursday January 29th from 6-7:30. Please turn in form and $3.00 for pizza to Mrs. Rais. · NHS Bands is hosting “From the 50 Yard Line”, a documentary on marching band, on January 31st at 7:30pm and February 1st at 2:00pm. · After School Rehearsals All afterschool rehearsals are required unless excused by the director with advanced notice. All after school rehearsals are from 2:30- 4:15. Students are able to take the late bus home. 7th Grade Band on Thursday November 13th 7th Grade Orchestra on Monday, November 17th 8th Grade Band Wednesday, November 19th · Concert Dates Our fall concerts will take place in the NMS Auditorium and begin at 7:00pm. Students should report to the band or orchestra room by 6:30pm. 7th Grade Band and Orchestra Concert on Tuesday November 18th 8th Grade Band Concert on Thursday November 20th · Concert Reminders Arrive at Band/ Orchestra Room by 6:30 Concert starts at 7:00pm (NMS Auditorium) Concert Dress: Guy- Black Pants, Socks and Shoes and a White Dress Shirt Ladies- Black Pants or Skirt (knee length or longer), Socks and shoes and a white dress shirt. · Upcoming Events DSO Field Trip on Friday, November 21st. Stay tuned for more information. 8th Grade Band: Rotary Luncheon on Thursday, December 4th. 8th Grade Band: Holiday Lights Parade on Friday, December 5th. Stay tuned for more information regarding time and location. All Music Students: Solo and Ensemble on December 6th at Brighton Scranton Middle School. Stay tuned for more information.
· Chamber Music Club: Chamber Music club is starting up this week and will meet on Tuesdays after school from 2:30– 4:30. Students can take the late bus home. Chamber music is music played by small ensembles of musicians, i.e. 3-10 musicians. Our chamber music club will have several opportunities to perform this school year. If interested please come Tuesday after school, or see Mrs. Rais for more information.
· DSO Field Trip: On Friday, November 21st, we are going on a field trip to hear the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and soloist Evelyn Glennie perform at Orchestra Hall. We will be gone from 9:30 am till 1:30pm. Tickets are $25.00 per student and will include pizza lunch after. Please turn in permission slip and money (check made out to Novi Middle School) by Tuesday, October 21st. If interested in chaperoning for this field trip please contact Mrs. Rais for further information.
· Band and Orchestra Spirit Wear: Order forms available in the band room. T Shirts are $12.00 and Hoodies are $25.00. Orders are due by Friday, October 24th. Please make checks outs to Novi Middle School.
